01 Behind the project

Money was taboo.
So I started the
conversation.

I’m Emanuel, a 21-year-old transfer student at the University of Houston and the first in my family to pursue higher education. Growing up in a Hispanic household, I often felt I had to navigate everything financial on my own.

Between 18 and 21, I invested consistently while working and attending school full-time, building a portfolio that reached approximately $40,000. I also began helping my parents and friends understand investing, retirement, and credit.

“This project is my experiment: stop waiting for perfect, start creating, and bring others along as I learn.”
02 What we’ll talk about

Finance for real life.

No rented cars. No overnight-millionaire promises. Just useful ideas, real numbers, and honest reflection.

01

Money, made practical

Credit, budgeting, Roth IRAs, 401(k)s, and the financial skills many of us were never taught at home.

02

Investing—wins and mistakes

Real portfolio decisions, honest lessons, and what an all-in leveraged ETF experience taught me about risk.

03

Accounting without the lecture

Classroom concepts translated into useful, everyday explanations for students and future professionals.

04

The student balance sheet

The reality of managing college, full-time work, relationships, tuition, career goals, and life.

Closing the financial
